Germany-Tanzania Bilateral Cooperation Strengthened With USD 210 Million Grant

 The German Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania has recently announced that it has concluded negotiations to strengthen the German-Tanzanian bilateral cooperation with a total grant of USD 210 million for development projects to b

 
The agreement includes a main program on human development for a total of USD 177 million, two projects on technical and financial cooperation totaling USD 18.9 million and a special program called “Health in Africa” to be implemented in the year 2016 and which represents an investment of USD 14.5 million.
 
In human development projects, efforts will be addressed to strengthen the health system, improvement of water supply and sanitation, and protection of biodiversity and natural resources, is indicated in the German Embassy’s statement available on its website.
 
Germany will emphasize the supporting of a Tanzanian health system which will develop a sustainable health financing regime, to deliver a better access of health services to the poorest population’s sector, reads the statement.
 
According to the German Embassy, its country will continue to support development projects for the water sector to ensure that poorest people in the country will have access to clean and safe drinking water and sanitation, by advising Tanzania on policies’ establishment and investments in cost-efficient infrastructure.
 
Regarding to biodiversity and natural resources, Germany is committed to strengthen the management on protected areas with special emphasize in the Serengeti and the Selous national parks to reduce wildlife poaching which has quickly increased over the last years, the statement says.
 
According to the World Bank, in Tanzania 53.2% of the population has access to improved water services compared with an average of 64.4% for the Sub-Saharan region.
 
Regarding to access to improved sanitation facilities, only 12.2% of the Tanzanian population enjoys this benefit while versus an average of 29.6% in Sub-Saharan region. e implemented within the next three years.
